George Carlin Dies in Los Angeles at 71

R.I.P George Carlin

Comedian George Carlin Dies at 71

Comedian George Carlin, dies of heart failure in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 22nd. Carlin was 71 years young.

Below is my all time favorite George Carlin stand up bit. hahahaha. ADULTS ONLY PLEASE.

George Carlin was a Grammy-winning American stand-up comedian, actor, and author.

Carlin was especially noted for his political and black humor and his observations on language, psychology, and religion along with many taboo subjects. Carlin and his "Seven Dirty Words" comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a narrow 5-4 decision by the justices affirmed the government's right to regulate Carlin's act on the public airwaves.

George Carlin's most recent stand-up routines were primarily focused on attacking the flaws in modern-day America. He often took on contemporary political issues in the United States and satirized the excesses of American culture.

He was considered by many to be a successor to the late Lenny Bruce and was described by Comedy Central as the second greatest stand-up comedian of all time behind Richard Pryor, and right before Lenny Bruce. He was also the first person to host Saturday Night Live. - Wikipedia

Comedic genius Eddie Izzard brings his world-view humor to The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 9:00 p.m. Taking his life experiences into account, Izzard has put together a new U.S. tour aptly titled Stripped which kicks off in late April.

After the loss of his mother when he was a mere 6 years old, Izzard grew up raised by a single father and boarding school teachers along with his brother – shaping his style of humor. Throughout his years of schooling Izzard took advantage of all school had to offer which led him to his career. After playing football for some time, he moved on to a school that did not offer the sport so he stopped playing. He tried school plays, but after auditioning over and over…couldn’t get a role. Izzard tried to play the piano, but ended up playing the clarinet and in the school’s band.

He was 12 when he received his first laugh as he mimed a bit during a skit he had written during one of his classes. Izzard went on to hone in on his craft throughout the years and his experiences – experiences that eventually led him to being one of the most popular comedians of all time. Izzard currently tours the world and has the lead role in FX’s The Riches, which premieres its new season Tuesday, March 18.

Presented by Andrew Hewitt and Live Nation, tickets for Brand Eddie Izzard’s Stripped are $55, $65 and $75, plus any additional box office or service fees, and go on-sale Sunday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m. Please visit Ticket Master to purchase tickets. Doors for Eddie Izzard will open at 8:00 p.m. and show time is 9:00 p.m.

Margaret Cho Performs at the Pearl March 29

Witty remarks will flow during the Beautiful stand-up tour

The always controversial, but highly amusing comedian Margaret Cho brings her satirical views on life to The Pearl at the Palms on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. as part of her world-wide Beautiful tour.

Margaret Cho received her first big break in the comedy field when she entered and subsequently won a contest where the grand prize was opening up for comedian Jerry Seinfeld. After diving in to the comedy scene when she was just 16 and had comedy running through her veins – her father was a writer of joke books – the win was a great accomplishment. Cho soon hit the college circuits and became an instant hit among the college demographic. With a couple big late night appearances, Cho was catapulted into the mainstream world of comedy, but retained her edgy, witty style that distinguished her from other observational comedians.

In 1999, Cho wrote and starred in a one woman show called I’m the One That I Want which eventually turned in to a US tour, concert film and book. She followed up with a tour called Notorious C.H.O. in 2001 and then Revolution in 2003. Revolution grossed more than $4 million and the CD version of Revolution was nominated for a Grammy award. In 2004 the tour was turned in to a concert film and released on DVD. Riding high from the success of Revolution, Cho launched the State of Emergency tour during the 2004 Presidential election which emerged as a new tour Assassin.

In 2006 following an adventure into bellydancing, Cho launched The Sensuous Woman – a mix of burlesque, comedy and bellydancing in a variety show format. Last year Cho received the first ever Best Comedy Performance award at the 2007 Asian Excellence Awards, the First Amendment Award from the ACLU of Southern California and the Intrepid Award from the National Organization for Women.

Presented by Andrew Hewitt and Live Nation, tickets for Margaret Cho are $38.00, $48.00 and $58.00, plus any additional box office or service fees, and go on-sale Friday, January 25, 2008, at noon. Please visit any Ticketmaster location, call 702-474-4000 or visit www.ticketmaster.com to purchase tickets. The Pearl Box Office is open from noon – 7 p.m. daily. Doors for Margaret Cho will open at 7:00 p.m. and show time is 8:00 p.m. The Pearl is home to the Miller Lite concert series, for more information on upcoming concerts, please call 702-942-6888.
