Just one year later, Gill and Lattisaw released the duo “Perfect Combination,” that made the top ten on Billboard’s R&B chart. In 1988, Gill joined the boy band New Edition as co-lead vocalist. The band saw much success with songs like “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can You Stand the Rain.” In 1990, Gill released the solo album Johnny Gill, selling more than 1 million copies and reaching the top ten on Billboard’s pop chart. Over the next few years, Gill released two more solo albums and an album with New Edition. In 1997, Gill formed the supergroup LSG with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat, which released the multi-platinum album Levert-Sweat-Gill and a second album LSG2 in 2003.
