Sammy Davis Jr. & Larry Birkhead??
Along with Anna Nicole Smith's lingerie, Larry Birkhead also bought Sammy Davis Jr.'s UNLV letterman jacket Saturday, June 21. The jacket had been part of the preview display at Symbolic Gallery and was auctioned at Planet Hollywood as part of Julien's Auctions' Summer Entertainment Sale. The jacket has "Sammy Davis Jr." embroidered in white thread on the right breast with the UNLV patch on the left breast, and "S Davis Jr" embroidered on an inside pocket.
Valued at between $600 and $800, Birkhead paid $2,625 for this piece of Hollywood and Vegas memorabilia.
Symbolic Gallery is located at 4631 Dean Martin Drive, just north of Tropicana Avenue. The home of the world's largest privately held collection of Johnny Cash memorabilia and the world's second-largest privately held collection of original R. Crumb artwork, admission is free and hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and by appointment.
