Town Square Now Open on Famed Las Vegas Strip

Town Square Las Vegas, an open-air shopping, dining and entertainment destination, debuted November 14 on The Strip, introducing a new generation of lifestyle centers to a city famous for its evolving landscape. According to developers Turnberry Associates and Centra Properties, Town Square helps fill a void in the market by providing a gathering place for residents.

Town Square’s architectural design, pedestrian-friendly streets, expansive children’s park, Town Square Park, storefront parking and more provide a family-friendly atmosphere for Las Vegas residents and out-of-town visitors. The dozens of shops and restaurants that comprise Town Square are integrated throughout the 1.5 million-square-foot center’s 22 buildings.

“Town Square is not just another shopping center; it’s a place where the entire family can spend the day together,” said Jacquelyn Soffer, Turnberry Associates managing partner. “We’ve taken many elements of the traditional open-air lifestyle center and uniquely developed it on a grand scale for Las Vegas. We’re confident Town Square will set a new benchmark for future retail development.”

To create Town Square, the architecture and design team visited numerous cities across the globe to uncover various design elements for the 22 buildings, which feature more than 70 different facades with authentic materials such as marble, stone and hand-painted plaster. A Mission-style building is situated within the center of Town Square, and as the buildings move outward, they take on new looks that reflect different places and eras.

"Town square is a unique achievement both in terms of development and collaboration,” said Jim Stuart, co-founder of Centra Properties. “We all felt that we were given a rare opportunity to create something special at a location that can’t be replaced. My hope now is that we have succeeded in bringing this community something of which they can be proud.”

An eclectic mix of retailers comprise Town Square’s shopping experience with a wide array currently open, including an 18-screen Rave Motion Pictures, H&M, Guitar Center, Martin & Osa, Abercrombie & Fitch, Apple, Lucky Brand Jeans, Chico’s, White House|Black Market, Soma, Metropark, Express and more. In early 2008, Borders Books, Whole Foods Market, Robb & Stucky and numerous others will debut. ElevenSpa Vegas also will open a large day spa on site. When complete, the center will include 150 exciting retailers.

Numerous restaurants will be on the menu at Town Square, offering new dining concepts and culinary creations to the center’s patrons. Town Square will showcase several restaurant concepts new to Las Vegas including, The Grape, Louis’s Fish Camp, Louis’s Las Vegas, Tommy Bahama Tropical Café & Emporium, Yard House, Texas de Brazil, Brio Tuscan Grille, Bar Louie, Blue Martini, Straits Café and Kabuki Japanese Restaurant. Favorites California Pizza Kitchen and Claim Jumper will also open locations at Town Square. The center opened with Louis’s Las Vegas, Louis’s Fish Camp and Claim Jumper, and the remaining restaurants will be introduced throughout the spring.

In addition, six of Town Square’s buildings include Class “A” office space on the second and third floors, totaling 352,000 square feet. The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce headquarters will move to the center next spring.

The city comes to life in the heart of Town Square where The Children’s Park and Town Square Park provide a variety of activities and entertainment. “The parks are the focal point of the center and enable us to give something back to the community in terms of quality fun and entertainment for the whole family,” Soffer said.

The Children’s Park at Town Square offers excitement for kids of all ages and features a tree house within a 42-foot tree along with a climbing rope, slides and a fort that’s connected by a bridge. Girls can explore the Princess Tower Playhouses with a connecting walkway and slides and a fun-filled bakery café with plastic dishes and faux food.

A fountain with 35 pop jets for splashing and playing, hedge maze with animal topiaries and playground equipment made of Robinia wood round out the park. Additionally, a children’s theater hosts shows, performances, storytelling, birthday parties and more. Just steps from the Children’s Park is Town Square Park, which includes a pavilion for concerts, fashion shows and special events, a bridge that crosses a small pond, a botanical garden and a picnic seating area for enjoying snacks or quaint dining in the park.

Motorists have easy access into the center. Developers built a $5 million fly-over ramp in front of Town Square to mitigate the flow of north and southbound traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard. Once inside the center, the fly-over becomes a road that loops around the perimeter providing convenient access to the shops, restaurants, offices and more. In addition to the fly-over, there are seven other entrances, three covered parking garages and store front parking that totals 5,800 parking spaces.

Town Square is located on 117 acres on Las Vegas Blvd., south of Mandalay Bay and at the junction of I-15 and the 215 Beltway. Las Vegas-based Marnell Corrao Associates, Baltimore-based Development Design Group Inc. and Boston-based Alan J. Mayer Architect are the architects of record for Town Square. The landscaping was completed by renowned Lifescapes International Inc.

Town Square is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.townsquarelasvegas.com.
